The comment policy is simple, and is mostly ripped off from Wil Wheaton: Don’t be a dick.
But let’s be more specific on a few things:
1. No evangelizing
I mean it. I’m going to be blunt — I’m not interested in joining your club. Even if I decided some kind of god existed, I still wouldn’t be interested in yours. That is most especially true if you are Jewish (in which case you’re probably not evangelizing — Jews rock!), Christian, or Muslim. So don’t waste your time, and more importantly, don’t waste mine. Deleting comments takes time in which I could be doing something else.
2. Be aware of what this blog is NOT
It is not an attempt to prove Atheism.
It is not a philosophical blog.
It is not a science blog.
In short: I don’t have to defend my atheism. There’s nothing really to defend. I simply have no belief in gods. Should I defend the fact that I dislike cilantro just because you like it? Should I defend the fact that I don’t believe in Santa? No, of course not. I also don’t have to get into long, hair-splitting philosophical discussions — not because such things are necessarily bad, but because THIS ISN’T THAT KIND OF BLOG. As for this not being a science blog, well, it ain’t my job to educate you. I don’t have to explain evolution to you, or cosmology, or learn you about the lines of evidence for the uniformity of natural law in the universe. I will happily point you to resources. That’s it.
3. Be aware of what this blog IS
Firstly, it’s MINE. My playground, my exercise of free speech. If you want to get your own, do so! But here, it’s my rules, my house. You don’t get to post wildly off-topic. You don’t get to be insulting or make demands, particularly of the kind that violate Rule #2.
Secondly, this is a personal blog, an attempt to think aloud about what it means for me to be an atheist. Atheism is simply a starting point, a stance or feeling on one issue that has implications for everything else. I’m interested in the everything else, and what for lack of a better term I will sometimes refer to as “spirituality.” It will sometimes be deeply personal, and I may well contradict myself as I think some more and figure things out.
And that, friends, is that. Comments that fail to comply will be deleted. Repeat offenders will be banned. End of story.
