The Maya Angelou Personality Test

This one seems to be getting a bit of coverage, even showing up on Boing Boing now. And it tickles me, so what the heck. For those that don’t know, here’s the Maya Angelou quote:

I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he or she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

Folks seem to be going for a 10 point scale, so here goes:

Rainy Day: 9/10 Heck, even the Nyarlahotep The Creeping Monsoon didn’t piss me off. I liked it, once I stopped wanting to pee my pants from fear. And one of my favorite musicals (and I looooove musicals) is Singing in the Rain. I even like getting caught in the winter rain storms we get, the ones with frigid rain drops that pound the heat out of you, so you walk in the door and have to strip down with numb fingers and shaking limbs. All this, of course, is lovely, because it’s a Great Excuse for Hot Chocolate, or a Bitchin’ Pot of Coffee. And using your cat as a heating pad (warning: may cause little red lines to appear on various parts of your body).

Lost Luggage: 6/10 It has happened to me once, and didn’t make me exactly happy. But I didn’t completely lose my cool, either. But I probably grumbled a bit. For a while. A week or two. Three, tops. But the third one was mostly grumbling about the state of the luggage when it finally was found and brought to me.

Tangled Christmas Tree Lights: 2/10 Much cursing. Suspicions of a deliberate plot to destroy my life. Repeated vows to never do this again (always forgotten when Christmas arrives again and I think “Oh, the pretties!”). Much thought put into revenge, usually directed at my mother, whose lights are the ones I’m usually putting up.

So, how would you all rate?

  • Rain: 8/10 – I don’t like that it makes my hair completely frizz out, but it doesn’t stop me from doing what I want to do or going where I want to go.
Lost luggage: neg 4/10 – it happened only once, on my honeymoon, and I was quite sleep deprived. It wasn’t pretty and I think I scared the entire airline industry into making sure that my luggage is always there upon departure. It helps that I rarely check luggage through nowadays though.
Tangled Christmas tree lights: 10/10 – I get into an almost transcendent state when I’m untangling them. Very Zen. Which is good, because Dad Windu completely freaks out and becomes the anti-Claus upon sight of tangled lights.

  • Rainy Day- 9.5/10. I look forward to them. I love them. Living in northeast Florida I get a lot of them and they make me happy. I’d take rain over 95 degree sunny heat any day! The sound of rain is so beautiful and so peaceful. Only thing that bothers me about them is that people don’t know how to drive in the rain, that’s annoying.

Lost Luggage- Ehh.. 6/10. It has yet to happen to me, but I can imagine being extremely annoyed. I pretty much always bring a carry-on with a few outfits just in case though so I don’t know if I’d get too angry. I know I’d be impatient waiting for my lost luggage to be returned to me.

Tangled xmas lights- 10/10. I really enjoy un-tangling them. Its like a big puzzle, and I’m good at it. Even if it takes a really long time, it never bothers me.

  • Rainy Day: 10/10. LOVE them. Having lived lots of years in climes like San Diego, they are rare.
Lost Luggage: 7/10. As long as I’m there I’m happy. It’s happened twice and both times I freaked out for about 10 min and then enjoyed the fact I didn’t have anything to lug around. It all works out.
Tangle Lights: 2/10. Swearing is involved.
