Ed Brayton knocks Orson Scott Card around

The blogosphere — particularly that part inhabited by SF&F authors and fans, has been exploding over the recent idiocy of Orson Scott Card. His latest ignorant ass episode is about gay marriage, and you can, if you dare, read it at the Mormon Times.

It’s not surprising to me that Ed Brayton of Dispatches from the Culture Wars would write up the clearest, and most dead-on, takedown.  Every time I hear the charge of “activist judge,” I wonder — what do these people think the judiciary is for? Brayton has the answer. You know, as an atheist/nontheist, and as a vegan (and an adherent of some other unpopular, non-majority stances), I’m grateful that we have a system in place that at least curbs the worst excesses of majority tyranny. It helps preserve at least some semblance of democracy in this country.

And looking at another side of the issue, wonderful amazing fantabulous young adult writer Justine Larbaleister takes on the issue of people declaring that they won’t read someone because of their political views/general nastiness. It’s a funny read, and has things to ponder in it.
